Abstract | The report describes an Illinois State University project for special education teachers and art teachers, which focused on arts programs for handicapped children. Project goals were to familiarize participants with basic characteristics of children with different handicaps, to facilitate communication between art and special education teachers, to familiarize participants with effective art education methods, to increase first hand knowledge of art activities appropriate for handicapped children, to emphasize the importance of the arts as a learning facilitator, and to develop a model for use in the training of special education and art teachers in all areas of the arts (music, drama, dance/movement, and visual arts). The project consisted of a series of workshops involving multimedia presentations, discussions, and other activities. (DLS) |
